A very dear, and fabulous friend of mine once commented, as we compared our mutually expanding waistlines in the aftermath of months of "good living" in a foreign country, that though she wasn't thrilled with the extra weight, she was quite proud of "the most expensive souvenier" she had picked up over the last few months.
This same sentiment was articulated again to me recently in the form of a newspaper article cut from the New York Times and shipped halfway around the world by my mother (who was either trying to tell me not to fret, or trying to tell me, not to fret
).
So while a million diet books abound in our world, and every beautiful woman seems to be going on and on about "shunning carbs" or eating in percentages, the beautiful TRENDY women among you are looking good and having fun. Because that is the crux of the matter, looking good is only fun, if you can do it and still keep some good things in your life!
The freshman fifteen, the dreaded fifteen pounds american females gain their first year of college should not be feared, at all, argues Marisha Pessl. The pounds are the souveniers of our lives. A late night study session with beer and pizza, a 13 hour road trip with sour cream and onion potato chips, all the soft-drinks your bladder will hold, and a few chocolates and gummies to make sure your sugar levels never drop. A party that spiraled from classy to debauchery by the exchanging of wine for bourbon.
I don't know about the rest of you but i'm not willing to "look good" at any cost. Like i've been trying to say these last few days (and I will stop and find a new rant to indulge soon, i promise, soon) some people can look good, but the trendy can look good while having fun. That is the artform, the heights to which we should all aspire. Looking good is a very delicate balance of deprivation and indulgence, and knowing how to indulge and in what proportions, well knowing that makes you a trend setter all your own!
