I opened the fridge at work this morning to be greeted with the most heinous aroma I have experienced. Who let the milk go off? Who put the chinese left-overs at the back now moldy? Who, I mean seriously, WHO, left potatoes in the work fridge until they were so rancid they were liquid??
Here's a thought for all you out there, cleaning out your fridge is a trendy weekend activity. Ok fine, maybe I'm just trying to justify the fact that I had to clean the communal fridge today by calling it trendy, but let's further examine the subject, see if there isn't a real case for the trendiness of fridge cleansing.
You want to get laid, you throw some cologne on when you head out on the town on a saturday night, no? You want a girlfriend to be impressed, you clean your bathroom before you invite her over, correct? Ladies, you want a man to stop and turn his head when you walk past, you better invest in the HOTTESTsmelling perfume that Gucci makes! Thus far you follow the thread of my argument then, scent and scent memories are poignant and we go to great lengths to make sure the scent we eminate is pleasing.
Why then would we be so careless with the fridge? Is it because we can't be asked to remove all the food we feel guilty for having bought and not eaten? Is it because we delude ourselves into thinking we'll manage to find a use for it before it goes off? Have we truly forgotten half the trash we throw in the fridge in the first place??
The only thing that a dirty fridge keeps is the potential for foul-smells to fill your home/apartment/workspace every time you open it, and of course, perhaps, in the direst of cases, airborne disease, bacteria, and virus?! A tad dramatic I'm sure, but nonetheless, cleaning your fridge is trendy, not just because I had to do it today, but because in the end its a vital step towards the goals we actively seek to achieve in quite dramatic lengths in other areas!
