Fiances and Marriage and Weddings oh my!
January 6th 2007 06:52
ok how many of you out there are 23 year old women?
how many of you out there were once 23 year old women?
how many of you out there are shortly going to be 23 year old women?
My question is posed to you all whether you are, you were, or you will be.
ARE YOU READY TO GET MARRIED AT THIS AGE?
If you were once a 23 year old woman the question is whether you were ready to get married at that age. If you are going to be a 23 year old woman the question is do you think you'll be ready for marriage at that age. If you are 23 then the question is as it stands!
Marriage? Are you ready?
Two friends of mine recently became engaged (they're a bit older THANK GOD) and I am nothing but happy for them. There is no jealousy because I can't even imagine being en fianced at this point in my life. I asked my friend if she felt like she was pretending or playing dress up to be walking around with a diamond glittering on her left hand? She said she didn't, not at all. That I can't imagine!
My whole life marriage has been something I've wanted, but there was never an age limit on it, never a pressure to find it, secure it, and do it. I wonder how typical this is of my culture. If you live in Australia do you feel marriage time-pressure differently then if you live in America, differently then if you live in England, differently then if you live in Germany? Why do all my 25 year old girl friends want to get married NOW!? Right now! Why do most of my 23 year old girlfriends not want that at all? What difference does two years make?
There was a drastic elevating of the "acceptable" age range in which a woman should consider marriage not so far past. Is the trend sweeping back down to young marriages for young mothers? Are the trendy out there the girls dying to be married in their "early" 20s or is trendy still those girls who will live out their 20s commitment-free and settle down just as the 20s are coming to an end?
I can't say with any certainty. I'm biased. Which way is the trend swinging on this one y'all??????
