Innocence almost lost

Police have stopped a wedding between a 5 year old girl and 7 year old boy in Karachi, Pakistan. The families had arranged the marriage to end a long-standing feud. The children's parents (and I use the term loosely), and the cleric officiating the ceremony were arrested. The others that should have been arrested but weren't were the 100 guests. None of them had alarm bells going off in their heads as to what these crazy parents had in store for their children?
Law in Pakistan forbids marriages until the age of 18 but there is some leeway allowed if puberty has been reached.
Puberty is not in the immediate future of either the bride and groom whose sick families thought up this crazy ceremony. If you want to marry them off to end this feud of yours (why the hell would you involve children in your own inability to function in society, you twits!), wait until they're 18 and then propose an arranged marriage. Then at least, if they are not able to tell the parents to get lost, they would both be of an age to understand what they are doing. A 5 year old and 7 year old have no idea what the concept of marriage even is, and should be playing, not getting married!
An official representing Pakistan Human Rights, said that the parents will be dealt with before a court and that the maximum sentence for their crime is one month jail and a fine of $10 USD. That's it? No 'real' punishment. That won't teach them anything about obeying the law or parenting! A very inadequate sentence, and as that is the maximum, they may even get off with less than that.
The only positive point about this, is that police stopped the ceremony before it could be completed. These children need to have the chance to stay children and act their own age, not to lose their childhood so young!

The Political Brief
The youngest and most helpless members of a society are the favored targets. I hope the two youngsters you wrote about will have better futures than their present position indicates.
