Make your vote count!
November 23rd 2007 11:08
Well here we are at another election day tomorrow. I remember being excited the first time I got to vote. Yes, I had a political opinion (and an opinion on everything of course!) since I was about 10 or 11. I'm the one lecturing 18 year olds on the importance of firstly enrolling to vote and then voting. It wasn't all that long ago I was voting for the first time, but it's certainly been a few years. I won't say how many because a lady never reveals her age!
Vote, vote, vote. I can't stress that enough. It's your chance to make a difference, make your vote count. Countless people have told me "They're all the same", "I don't like politicians, I don't want to vote", "Why bother, it doesn't make a difference what I think anyway" and so many other things. It does. Just think about what happens when all the other people who feel that way decide not to vote or not to vote correctly as well...see a domino effect happening?
It's a chance to affect how Australia is run basically, and for many of us (those not in politics), our only chance to try to make a difference is through voting. So do it, you don't lose anything. You gain a voice. You exercise a right. Voting is a right that should be exercised.
Tomorrow, attend the designated polls in your electorate, and fill in the ballot paper you're given with purpose. Fill it in correctly, make sure that your vote counts!
