Peace is Back--in Fashion
March 21st 2007 08:06
They (people.com) say that peace-sign earrings are back in fashion and the rest of us are left wondering when stick straight hair and bell-bottoms will rush into fashion, too.
Why are the 60s constantly being recycled (and in this case, why did it take so long?!)
The war has been raging for 4 years now and the only question left to ask is when is the young generation going to stand up and say something? Will it filter in slowly through accessories such as the peace-sign earrings or will it rush in after those little changes to take the country by storm? Was the draft really the only impetus behind the civil rights and anti-war phenomena of the 1960s and 1970s or were our general predacessors more fundamentally moral, ethical, passionate, motivated, courageous, daring, and vocal??
Why hasn't my generation made a stink about it? Because we're all too happy floating through our lives in our SUVs? Because we're all overindulged and don't believe that the world OUT THERE makes a difference to our world IN HERE? Because isolationsim once more dominates our mind-frames?
Why haven't we been wearing peace signs and long knit cardies and letting out hair grow long? Why aren't we rebelling and pushing society to catch up with us!! why aren't we defining anything about who we want to be in the world and what we want this world to look like?
Why is it that we can take trendy into fashion but not into politics?
