Rape allegation and Kyle Sandilands
August 1st 2009 02:53
This has been all over the media since it happened and I honestly don't see why this issue has become as big as it has.
It is horrible yes, that this girl's mother would take her on a radio show to do a lie detector test, already knowing the information which was disclosed. Discuss it in the privacy of your own home, not live on air. How mortifying for the girl that her own mother would put her through this on the airwaves!
Kyle made a silly comment, sure, but have you ever been put on the spot live on air? It happens, you'll say something silly, you don't have time to think about what you're saying. Especially with a comment like that, he was clearly thrown and didn't think about what he said next.
Rather than blaming Kyle and Jackie O, why not consider the mother's actions? I'm tired of everyone expecting everyone else to do a parents job.
A 12 year old gets pregnant, as happened quite recently, it must be DoCs' fault, not the pathetic excuse of a mother who let her sleep with her boyfriend in the home, or even the girl herself. If she wants to be sexually active at her age then she can accept the consequences, it's as simple as that. DoCs is not there to supervise everyone, despite popular belief.
A girl gets dragged on a radio show by her mother for a lie detector test, and it must be Kyle's fault. Seriously? Kyle didn't ask the question, this girl's mother did, and she admitted to knowing the answer. Well, it is the mother's fault in that case, not the radio station. Clearly the segment itself was put forth by the station but again, they're a radio station, they're not the parents of this poor girl. What happened is of course, unfortunate, but the blame is squarely on the mother in this instance, no one dragged her and her daughter there to take part in this segment, or dictated the questioning of her daughter.
Give Kyle a break and remember that parental responsibility still exists, the community is not there as a constant babysitter. Parents need to do their job too, not expect everyone else to do it for them, and blame others for their mistakes.

And I disagree with you in that if you are a radio presenter, it is part of your job to think before you speak and Kyle did actually pause before commenting.
