V-DAY? IDS-DAy!

I want to tell all you single girls out there not to sweat the small stuff. I want to tell you that but I can't think of anything more trite, less helpful, and all around untrendy.
My friends (girls and boys alike) who are single on this commericially imposed day of love decided to dub Valentine's Day "Indiscriminant Sex Day" instead, hoping this would offer us the humour if not the courage to go meet someone and at least enjoy the evening.
But the day of love is a funny day to be running around gushing about how lovely it is to be single. And don't get me wrong, sometimes it really is lovely to be single. No one to answer to, no boy off-limits (ever), no flirtation leading to guilt...blah blah blah, you want to hear about the fabulousness of being single go rent yourself Sex and the City. The reality is, when the world is telling you with flowers and candies and the showering of affections, that YOU are alone, well it takes a damn confident person to feel strong, to not let go of all the choices that have led to this moment. I'm not sure anyone is ever capable of holding onto it entirely.
I guess, like anything else, self-confidence comes in degrees. And it varies less person to person then day to day. This is one of those days where it wavers, for most of us I imagine. This is one of those mornings when you stretch across your queen size bed and sort of regret that you slept diagonally across it, sort of regret that you have the whole thing to yourself. If it helps to hear that other people feel this way, then here it is: OTHER PEOPLE FEEL THIS WAY, I FEEL THIS WAY.
But i know that i've made choices that have brought me, single, to this moment. And i wouldn't trade the life i've had for anything. Not even for flowers and candies and showering of affections on Valentine's Day. Though I garuntee that throughout the day I'll be tempted to.
Trendy is letting it be ok that today is a hard day (or a sad day, or a frustrating day, or a lonely day, or a great day, a fat day, a bad-hair day, an excited day, a nervous day....etc.)
Its not about pretending you don't care or that its not hard, its about knowing that tomorrow has the possibility to be a million times better (or a million times worse) for any number of reasons!
