Your and You're

December 30th 2007 10:44
Why do people not notice the difference? It's either your or you're, it's not one or the other no matter how it's being used in a sentence. Just one of my grammar gripes! I've come across it everywhere, even in professional publications. Proof-reading and editing go a long way!

You're ( contraction for "you are"). Your, as in possessive "your dog, your hat, your car." Not that complicated, but some people apparently didn't pay attention during their English lessons. It annoys me as well.

Not to mention 'their', 'there' & 'they're'!
